I found this snake eating poor Mr. Toad on the patio yesterday afternoon. It was scary standing so close to a snake but my neighbor came over and help me be brave about in the face of danger! The snake held on to the toad for at least a half hour then suddenly the toad pushed away and hopped. The garter snake, stressed by the company of photographers slithered off into the Pachysandra (BTW, I will never again step in the Pachysandra). The toad hopped a bit and Andras (neighbor and photographer) picked him up and put him out in the woods where we all hoped he'd flourish, even with a bleeding leg.
Sadly, this morning early the dog brought me a dead toad, I'm pretty sure it was our Mr. Toad. He will be missed as he could be depended on to eat lots of bugs.
