I set the tube on a mirror, then painted it with a flashlight.

Worked out very well (and very messy). Is the shutter just kept open on bulb for these shots?

@Curly: Yep, I just opened the shutter, then paint away till I think I have enough light for a good print. It takes a few shots to figure out how long your exposure needs to be but then you can take a good deal of time and highlight whatever you want.
